The TARBASE Research

TARBASE was a 4 year, £1.4M research project co-funded by EPSRC and the Carbon Trust - part of the Carbon Vision Buildings suite of projects. It investigated and costed technological solutions for reducing the CO2 emissions of a range of candidate buildings by 50%. The robustness of these technological solutions to extant, near term climate change and variations in the grid emission factor assigned to network electricity was further explored. The acceptability of the selected intervention sets to building users and owners were investigated through surveys and focus groups. The project has yielded important information regarding the steps needed to produce the transition towards a low carbon built environment.
